With over five million hotspots across the UK and Ireland, BT Wi-Fi is the largest public Wi-Fi network in the UK.
But they wanted this service to be accessible to more people across the UK – they wanted an easy-to-use app that would make wireless connectivity more accessible to users on-the-go.
BT approached us in 2011 with the task of building it, with an intuitive navigation and UI that functioned across a variety of platforms and devices.
What we did
With so many people wanting more Wi-Fi, it was crucial that the app was available to as much of the population as possible, which is why our team built the app for iOS, Android, Blackberry and Windows devices.
The premise behind the app was simple: map the location of the user, display the nearest hotspots and allow for speedy connectivity. Our developers worked closely with their design agency and testing team, to develop a layered mapping system stored on a backend server.
A fast and automatic log-in process meant customers could stay connected no matter what their location, while the intuitive design made for a simplistic UX. Plus, we built in plenty of FAQs and step-by-step guides to show how to use the app if users needed extra help.
BT found the app to be so successful that they came back to us in 2012 for a refresh. We then gave their in-house team the tools needed to take the app forward into what it is today.
The app meant an enhanced service offering for BT customers, where connectivity was extended to every device in the user’s life, all without exceeding their data tariff.
