DE Lijn
Delivering Belgium’s largest route planner
Millions of journeys riding on getting it right
De Lijn is the state-owned public transportation company that operates all bus and tram networks in the Flemish Region of Belgium.
Customer satisfaction and convenience sit at the centre of De Lijn’s ambitions, which is what led them to Apadmi for technical and strategic support. Together, we formed a collaborative team to help the public transport provider modernise its digital services and deliver a better passenger experience.
Apadmi created an app that would serve as a travel guide in customers’ pockets, letting travellers choose the optimal route and enjoy a carefree journey throughout Belgium. A system with millions of users continuously generates data and feedback, so the app needed to be robust and stable by design, built to collect, analyse and seamlessly process a huge volume of complex data points.
Turning Data into Better Journeys
Apadmi created an app that would serve as a travel guide in customers’ pockets, letting travellers choose the optimal route and enjoy a carefree journey throughout Belgium. A system with millions of users continuously generates data and feedback, so the app needed to be robust and stable by design, built to collect, analyse and seamlessly process a huge volume of complex data points.
Routes that adapt in real time
The app uses mobile GPS tracking to help passengers complete their journey, knowing exactly which line a user is on and when they need to get on or off, with notifications guiding them to their final destination.
Every stop, brought to life
Using Google StreetView, passengers can pull up an interactive map for any stop, making travelling more insightful and interactive, since every environment can come to life before they even arrive.
Tickets in a few taps
Bus and tram tickets are always available and at hand through the app, from single tickets to day passes and 10-trip cards, with the same familiar ticket types passengers already knew, just a few taps away rather than a queue at a machine.
Journey Planning Made Simple
The app also lets passengers plan and save complete routes, including boarding and disembarking points, connections and disruptions, alongside a handy disembarkation warning notification so no one misses their stop.

A Platform That Keeps Moving
What started as a smarter way to plan journeys has become an increasingly important part of De Lijn’s wider passenger experience.
In 2025, De Lijn carried 372.9 million passengers, up 4.5% on the year before, and passenger satisfaction climbed to 78%—its highest level in years—with improvements to real-time travel information named as one of the key drivers.
The app itself has kept pace with that growth, with De Lijn continuing to roll out new functionality including digital boarding and live vehicle tracking on the map.
