APADMI TRANSFORMS CONCERTZENDER’S MOBILE EXPERIENCE
The Dutch radio station Concertzender launched a completely renewed iOS and Android app for its listeners. The new app brings the live streams of Concertzender and World of Jazz together with extensive on-demand listening options in a single mobile environment.
The old app reached an average of 4,500 listeners per week. With the renewed app, Concertzender aims to respond to listeners’ wishes and give even more music lovers access to its wide range of offerings. The design and development were provided by Apadmi, which was chosen by Concertzender as its new mobile partner in 2025.
Concertzender has offered a wide range of classical music, early music, jazz, world music, chanson, new music, and pop music for years via various online channels. The former radio app did not offer sufficient space for the desired functionalities and did not fully align with the listeners’ wishes. Therefore, the radio station opted for a complete update of the app, with a contemporary design and more extensive functionalities.
The new app also makes it possible to easily switch between Concertzender and World of Jazz and provides access to the various thematic channels. Additionally, the app includes a programme guide, a search function, and extensive options for revisiting recorded concerts and radio programmes on demand. It also supports Chromecast, AirPlay, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay, allowing listeners to easily play their music on other devices.
The new app was built in Flutter and published as version 5.0.0 in the existing Apple App Store and Google Play Store, so users received the renewed app as a regular update.
Concertzender is a non-profit foundation and relies heavily on subsidies and donations from contributors. With the introduction of the renewed app, the organisation now has a contemporary digital platform that offers room for further expansion. New functionalities are already on the roadmap and will follow in future releases, depending on the available funding. The new app was co-financed by Cultuurloket Digitall and the KFHeinfonds.
Sem de Jongh, Director of Concertzender: “A completely renewed app has been high on our wish list for a long time. Last year, after an agency orientation, we chose PINCH by Apadmi. Their experience as an app developer for, among others, Qmusic, JOE, De Telegraaf, NRC, and Het FD gave us the confidence that they could realise our ambitions. PINCH by Apadmi carefully translated our wishes into a future-proof app. In the coming years, we will work step-by-step on expanding the platform.”
Tim Klein Haneveld, Managing Director Apadmi: “Concertzender has a unique music offering that you won’t find anywhere else: from extensive jazz archives to classical music and even less well-known musical genres. That versatility required an app that allows listeners to easily navigate through all that content. During the development, we were also able to further develop the user library. It is great to contribute to an organisation that keeps this musical heritage accessible.”
