QMusic

Turning the Netherlands’ most-listened-to radio station into a two-way conversation

Where radio meets real interaction

Qmusic is one of the Netherlands’ biggest commercial radio stations, owned by DPG Media. It reaches 7.8 million listeners every month and holds the largest market share in its category.

Its mission is simple: make listeners’ days a little better. Interaction is central to that mission, from on-air games to million-euro competitions. The app needed to become more than somewhere to listen—it needed to be where listeners could take part.

In 2018, Qmusic partnered with Apadmi to redesign and rebuild the app from the ground up.

From concept to launch

We worked alongside the Qmusic team from the earliest discovery sessions through UX, design and native development, delivering apps in Swift for iOS and Kotlin for Android.
The result transformed passive listening into an interactive experience.

Listen live, your way

Listeners can stream live radio, switch between Qmusic’s digital stations, and save favourite tracks directly to Spotify or Apple Music.

A direct line to the DJs

A WhatsApp-style messaging feature lets listeners send text, voice notes, photos and videos directly to presenters, making radio a genuine two-way conversation.

A live second screen

A real-time timeline mirrors what’s happening on air, allowing listeners to react, comment and engage with shows as they unfold.

Results

The rebuilt app surpassed one million downloads in its first month, giving Qmusic a direct digital relationship with its audience. Today, tens of thousands of listeners use the app every day, making it a core part of the station’s listener experience.

Built for lasting engagement

Since launch, Qmusic has continued its growth to become the Netherlands’ number one commercial radio station, recording its highest-ever monthly audience and leading year-on-year growth. Interactive formats such as Het Geluid continue to drive engagement across both broadcast and mobile.

“Working with Apadmi was seamless. They challenged our thinking on the app concept and pushed it further. I’m proud of what we built together, tens of thousands of engaged daily users.”
